FAQs

PapaPaw WhiskerID relies solely on visual intelligence for identification. For multi-cat households with distinguishable facial features, we employ our proprietary pet facial recognition algorithm. The AI maps over 100 unique facial landmarks, including key points of facial features, as well as coat patterns and colors. Using a 5‑megapixel camera, the system analyzes facial traits, coat color distribution and proportion, and facial structure. The entire process integrates local recognition with cloud‑based verification to ensure precision and reliability, achieving an identification accuracy of 97%.
(If two cats look identical—for example, both are all‑black or all‑white, or are twin cats with no distinguishable facial features—they can be told apart by having one wear a collar with a tag or a piece of clothing.)

Yes. While traditional cameras often struggle with black cats due to low contrast, PapaPaw WhiskerID uses advanced visual intelligence and a dedicated low‑light night mode. This allows the AI to detect the facial structure and depth of a cat regardless of fur color or ambient lighting. Whether it’s for a midnight snack or a black cat in a dark room, recognition stays accurate.

We call this “piggybacking,” and we’ve engineered a solution for it. PapaPaw WhiskerID features a 360° Proximity Shield. If the AI detects a second face or a secondary mass entering the “Feeding Zone,” the lid will not open, or it will gently close to protect the specialized food. It is designed to prioritize the safety of the authorized cat while locking out the intruder.

We specifically designed WhiskerID for Senior Kitizens, who can be more easily startled. We use a high-end Ultra-Quiet Brushless DC Motor. The lid opens and closes with a soft, smooth glide that is quieter than a human whisper (less than 30dB), ensuring your shy cat feels safe and comfortable.

Your cat’s health shouldn’t depend on your internet router.
Offline Mode: WhiskerID stores your cat’s facial profiles locally on the device “at the edge.” If the Wi-Fi goes down, the feeder will still recognize your cat and feed them.

Absolutely. We’ve replaced cheap plastic bowls with Medical-Grade 304 Stainless Steel. It is non-porous, dishwasher-safe, and recommended by vets to prevent “feline acne.” The bowl and hopper are easily detachable for deep cleaning.

Microchips are great for identification, but they make for poor feeders. Chips can “migrate” (move) down a cat’s shoulder, causing the feeder to fail. Furthermore, many owners don’t want to put a collar on a senior cat. WhiskerID is 100% non-invasive—the cat’s face is their “key,” which they can never lose or leave behind.
